Self Adhesive Labels on a Roll

Self adhesive labelling machines have become a vital part of the product manufacturing business. There are many applications for a labelling machine – some are manually operated whilst others are completely automated and sit in the production line. Others yet are semi-automatic.

What Are Self Adhesive Label Machines?

Self adhesive label machines are machines that apply self adhesive labels to a wide range of products. From bottles to boxes and tubes to bags – the majority of the products you have in your household have had their labels applied by a self adhesive label system.

For small production quantities, a manual self adhesive label applicator may be used. These work by placing the product (whether it's a bottle, a box or flat package), into the machine and then the product is turned – applying the self adhesive label as it turns. This can allow smaller manufacturers to package their products with professional finish but it can be very labour intensive as it is a manual process.

For much larger volumes, an automatic or semi-automatic self adhesive labelling machine is used. These are slotted into large production or assembly lines – often as part of one of the final packaging stages. The products come through the production line and the label applicator will have a stock of pre-printed self adhesive labels on a roll. These self adhesive labels (pressure-sensitive) are automatically applied to the product and then the products continue on the production line until they are ready to be shipped.

How Are They Used?

Self adhesive labelling machines and self adhesive labels on a roll are used in two different ways. Firstly, by the manufacturer themselves and secondly as a contracted over labelling service. ALS sells labelling machines that can be slotted into any production line and can be installed above, to the side and underneath the production line to ensure the best labelling position. They are also available in left and right versions.

ALS also provides an over labelling service where manufacturers or packaging companies send packaging to ALS (often flat packed) and we will apply all the labels and send it back to you. This is often an excellent way to update packaging without wasting old stock. New barcodes, legislature, special promotions and security tags can all be applied with our bespoke over labelling service.
